Artmosphere was a successful exhibition of works by Year 7 to
10 students from Mt Eliza Secondary College held at “The Briars
Park” at Mt Martha.
Students designed and created group and individual artworks
interpreting their experiences of the environment at The Briars. The
resulting works were the product of the students imagination and
inventive technical skills and consisted of suspended, relief and
free standing sculptures, with the majority of the materials coming
from the surrounding bushland.
The
project supports the school curriculum and focuses on skills
development, team work and social interaction between the different
year levels. The students worked collaboratively with artist and
mentor Chaco Kato, art teacher Maggie Ellis, student teacher Lacey
Robertson and Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery Education
Officer Elisa Ryan to create works and develop the exhibition.
It
has been wonderful to see the development of the students with the
opportunity they’ve had to extend their work out of the classroom
space and into the public arena. The experience gained by the
students in working with a practicing artist and the experience in
the use of different mediums was both illuminating and enjoyable.
